Ickenham United Reformed Church
The Courage to be known
God of tenderness and truth,
we come - not just with our words,
but with complex histories we cannot always speak.
You see our hidden depths,
the needs we dare not express,
as we hide the truth of our vulnerability.
You know those places within us,
grief and loss tucked up in a corner,
self-sufficiency the veneer over unmet need.
Perfection is not what you ask of us,
only a desire to know you, and
the courage to be known in return.
Draw us in close, and help us -
to drop the facade and rest easy
in the balm of your unconditional love.
May your touch temper our defences,
your tenderness draw out our truth,
and your life awaken our own.
Amen
